ALL ABOUT: Kinesiology Taping

Updated: May 11, 2024

What is kinesiology taping?

Kinesiology Taping, often referred to as "Kin Taping," is a therapeutic technique that involves applying a specialized elastic tape to the skin. It aims to provide support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body's range of motion.

How does kin taping work?

The elastic properties of the tape allow it to stretch and contract with the body's movements. This creates a lifting effect on the skin, which can help to relieve pressure on pain receptors, improve circulation, and reduce inflammation. It also provides proprioceptive feedback, which can enhance body awareness and support proper movement patterns.

What can kin taping help with?

Kinesiology Taping can be used to address a wide range of musculoskeletal issues, including but not limited to:

Muscle strains and sprains

Joint instability

Tendonitis

Postural alignment issues

Can I shower with this tape on?

Yes! The tape I use is pretty water-resistant and can be worn during activities such as showering, swimming, or exercising. However, prolonged exposure to water may reduce the tape's adhesion, so it's essential to pat the tape dry gently after getting wet.

How long do results take?

The timeframe for experiencing benefits from Kinesiology Taping can vary depending on the individual and the condition being treated. Some people may notice immediate relief, while others may require several sessions or days of taping to achieve significant improvements.

What brands do you use?

Currently I've had best results with the brand RockTape.

Is there latex in the brand you use?

Nope! Being that I have a latex allergy myself, I would never use that on clients.

How long does the tape last?

RockTape can be worn for up to 5 days.
