4 Tips to Avoiding Holiday Stress

Endless traffic at the mall.

Long, winding lines at every store.

Ridiculously long to-do lists.

'Tis the season indeed. In an otherwise joyful season, holiday stress is slowing creeping upon us. And while you would much rather be sipping hot tea (Sleigh Ride from David's, my personal fave.) and watching some Christmas-y movie, you're stuck fighting the crowds, and tracking your online purchases! It's no secret that stress is awful for your body, but ongoing stress is worse. Ongoing stress will disrupt your sleep, compromise your immune system, raise your blood pressure, and may cause you some awful headaches. Here are some great ways to deal with the holiday stresses.

Stop and smell some citrus. If you have always enjoyed the scent of oranges, lemons, limes, or grapefruits, it is for a good reason. Research has shown that citrus-y fruits can raise mood boosting hormones. You can get you fix by checking the grocery aisle to smell those fresh scents!

Hit the road, on your feet that is. Did you know that a brisk walk can have a meditative affect? Not only that but being outside will also serve as an energy and mood booster too!

Less is more. Less shopping, less social gatherings, and more quiet time can also help reduce stress levels. You have to be okay with replying to an event with a simple “no, thank you” to a few less loved holiday invites. Then that night can be spent relaxing with your PJ's on, you'll be thank you, you did so.

Get those “stress knots” worked on. Massage therapy during the holiday season can do wonders for your stress levels when the holidays get into full swing.

As you're rushing from place to place, don't forget to indulge in some self care for youself too, you deserve it. Besides after taking care of yourself, you will have more energy to spent with your loved ones, and to celebrate what these holidays are all about.
