Did you know that August is National Golf Month? Okay well maybe you did, but did you also know that massage therapy might actually help your golf game! Might as well use those both as reasons to get a massage, play some golf, and maybe get another massage after your game! Who knows, it may end up being some of your best games yet!
If your muscles are sore after a round (or two,) golf can a pretty great form of exercise. Throughout your game, you're working out some pretty crucial muscles, for instance your abdominal, glutes, back, and hips, as well as strengthening your upper body. Your chest and forearms get worked out too! And if you are walking the 18 holes, you're walking at least 8.5km!
There are many things you want to watch while your on the course. First of all if you're going into your round with tight muscles, or if you don't stretch prior to your round, you may fall victim to some golf-related injuries. From straining the low back, to shoulder and neck injuries, golf can either aggravate previous sore injuries, or create new ones. If your swinging position is even the slightest bit off, you could strain the tendons in your ankle and or foot. The worry of the common condition known as golfers elbow is the painful swelling or irritation of the tendons of the elbow.
Because so much of golf involves plenty of repetitive motions, means that muscles will be pushed to their limits repeatedly. This can cause a decrease in flexibility of these muscles and increase or present with pain in the muscles too. To keep the muscles involved loose, massage therapy is a wonderful to way to practice preventive care. I will concentrate on the specific muscles of involvement to keep those muscles loose and flexible. Of course massage therapy is a great way to help ease mental focus and decrease the stress and anxiety you may experience. Because going into a full round with stress can lead to a not so great round.
