Does your Monday – Friday world consist of sitting behind a desk, a phone, a computer, and a well used chair? When you get out of your chair at days end, do you feel as though you just moved a mountain? It's not a secret that desk jobs aren't the best for your bodies. With a grand total of 80% (and rising) of people who work at jobs who are sedentary or else require less activity, compared to 20% from 1960, the neck strains, slouching, and shoulder pain are a dreadful reality for many. So, how can you decrease the aches and pain without switching jobs?
For starters, take a look at the position of your computer screen. Idealistically you shouldn't have to bend your neck to look at your screen. If you're using a laptop, try to connect level the laptop with your eyes. Eventually the stress to your neck from being tiled to gaze at a screen can lead to permanent damage and degeneration to your neck. This goes for phone screens too! Try to lessen the amount of time your head is bent down while you're texting, or otherwise looking at your phone. For every degree your neck is bent forward, a surprising amount of weight is added onto your neck.
Another thing that can try to be avoided, is the phone neck cradle. Believe me, I realize how difficult it is to break this habit, but believe me it's a worthwhile endeavour. Surprisingly our necks weren't meant to hold a phone in this position. Ignoring this suggestion can lead to pinched nerves, knotted muscles, and so much more! With today's wide spread use of Bluetooth headset it makes this tip a lot easier to do.
Even after trying to set your monitor at the right height and utilizing a phone headset, you can still deal with the strains and stresses on your body, keeping up with your regular massage appointments can help heal the aches and pains you may experience. Massage therapy can also help promote proper posture and avoid permanent damage.
