What is oncology massage?
Oncology massage is a specialized form of massage therapy designed to safely and compassionately support individuals undergoing cancer treatment or in cancer recovery. It's tailored to address the unique needs and considerations of cancer patients, taking into account factors such as medical history, treatment side effects, and emotional well-being.
Whats's different between oncology massage and regular therapeutic or relaxation massage?
Oncology massage differs from regular massage in that it's adapted to accommodate the physical and emotional needs of individuals affected by cancer. I have undergone specialized training to understand the complexities of cancer treatment, such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, and how they may impact the body. Oncology massage techniques are also modified to ensure safety and comfort, considering factors such as compromised immune function, surgical sites, lymphedema, and neuropathy.
What are the benefits of oncology massage?
Oncology massage offers a range of potential benefits, including:
Reduction of anxiety, stress, and depression
Alleviation of pain, nausea, and fatigue
Improvement in sleep quality and relaxation
Enhancement of overall well-being and quality of life
Support for the body's natural healing processes and immune function
Is oncology massage safe?
YES! However, it's essential to communicate openly with your healthcare team and I about your medical history, treatment plan, and any specific concerns or precautions. Your massage therapist will adapt the treatment to ensure comfort and safety, taking into account factors such as treatment side effects, medical devices, and areas of sensitivity or vulnerability. I also ask for a doctor's note just to be on the safe side.
But I read massage can spread cancer, can it?
That is just a rumour. Massage therapy of the tumour site can and eill be avoided, but there is more to a person than a tumour site, and the cancer itself.
Can I get treatment if I'm in active cancer treatment?
Yes! Just let me know that's the case, and I can adapt treatment specifically for you!
I'm in hospice, can you come preform oncology massage for me?
Yes! Just please reach out to me directly to figure everything out!
Still got a question?
Reach out to me and I'll see if I can help you out!
