ALL ABOUT: Myofascial Cupping

Updated: May 11, 2024

What is myofascial cupping massage?

Myofascial cupping massage is a therapy technique that involves the use of silicone or glass cups to create suction on the skin. This suction helps to lift and separate the layers of fascia, the connective tissue that surrounds muscles and organs, promoting blood flow and releasing tension.

What kind of cups do you use?

Here at Casey's Massage Therapy, I have a couple options for you! One option is silicone cups, which some people report feeling less of a pull with these. The other option is hard plastic cups, with the hard plastic cups you have a choice between round shaped, heart shaped, and or star shaped!

How does cupping work?

The cups are placed on specific areas of the body and then either left in place or moved around to create a massage-like effect. The suction created by the cups helps to stretch and release the fascia, breaking up adhesions and promoting the flow of nutrients and oxygen to the muscles.

What are the benefits of cupping?

  • Relieving muscle tension and tightness

  • Improving blood circulation

  • Increasing range of motion and flexibility

  • Reducing inflammation

  • Promoting relaxation and stress relief

Is it painful?

Myofascial cupping massage is generally not painful, although you may experience some discomfort or mild bruising afterward, especially if you have tight or sensitive muscles.

Will it leave a mark?

Potentially! The suction created by the cups can sometimes cause temporary redness or discolouration of the skin, but this typically fades within a few days.

Do you charge extra for use of your cups?

Absolutely not! Cups can be included with any of your regular appointments, just tell me!

How long does the redness last?

Typically the redness disappears after a day or two, though that will all depend on your body.
