ALL ABOUT: Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation (IASTM)

What is Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation (IASTM)?

IASTM stands for Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization. It's a therapeutic technique used to treat musculoskeletal conditions and injuries.

How does Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation (IASTM) work?

IASTM involves the use of specialized tools, made of stainless steel to apply targeted pressure and friction to soft tissues such as muscles, tendons, and ligaments. This technique helps break down scar tissue, adhesions, and fascial restrictions, promoting tissue healing, mobility, and pain relief.

What can Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation (IASTM) help with?

IASTM can be beneficial for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, including, but not limited to:

  • Tendonitis

  • Myofascial pain syndrome

  • Plantar fasciitis

  • IT band syndrome

  • Rotator cuff injuries

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

Is Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation (IASTM) painful?

IASTM may cause some discomfort during the treatment, especially if there are areas of adhesions or scar tissue. However, many people find the discomfort to be tolerable, and the benefits of IASTM, such as increased mobility and pain relief, often outweigh any temporary discomfort experienced during the session.

Will I bruise?

Maybe! Similar to myofascial cupping, it can happen, and it may not, it just depends on you.

Can I choose which tools I'd like to be used on me?

Sure! Just let me know before your appointment you want to choose, and I will definitely do my best to accommodate your request.

Do you have any recommendations for after treatment?

Stay hydrated! Avoid intense activities! And maybe even use some ice!

Can this be included with my regular massage?

Yes of course! Just please tell me you would like to do this and I'll include it.

Do you charge extra for it?

Similar to Myofascial Cupping, I do NOT charge extra for use of these tools.

Still got a burning question?

No worries, reach out to me and I'll help you out!

Is this like Graston's technique?

Exactly the same! You can think of Graston's as thing as IASTM. Think of it as calling facial tissue, Kleenex. Graston's is the brand name.
